A little over 3 months ago, I started volunteering with MetroRelief. This organization is a ministry which help house the homeless. (MetroRelief.org) Today, along with soup and hot chocolate, we passed out hygiene kits, jackets, socks, blankets, gloves and hats. I haven’t seen a couple of people for a few weeks and wonder how they are. One of the people helped by this organization asked me to paint this picture for her. She told me she remembers being where this man once was. The first time I went out with them I wrote this poem. I went to make a difference in their lives and they made a difference in mine.
ON THE EDGE OF SOCIETY
They live on the edge of society
Their plight doesn’t seem to be a priority.
Nameless, Hopeless and Homeless
But definitely not Heartless.
A mom with two boys
Lives in a hotel, but still has joy.
She affirms how good God is
Shares with others God’s promises.
A man and woman walking the street
Stop by for some soup to eat.
He said it was the best he’s ever had.
She ;laughed and told him he was bad.
They told me they live at a bus stop
Occasionally the police tell them to move on down the road
Because staying there is against city code.
One woman I handed a cup of soup
Said to me “I’m a whore.
I don’t believe in God anymore
So what do you care?”
I say it’s okay and I do care. As she turns and walks away,
I tell her I hope to see her next Friday.
A volunteer gave a man a bag of goodies
Like socks, gloves toothbrush and snacks.
But what he was the proudest of
Was the water resistant hoodie.
A retired nurse, 71 years old
Happy for gloves as her hands were cold
She lives in her car
“It’s been good, but doesn’t go very far.”
One man said he lived in the back room of his business
When CoVid came he was finished.
Another man danced the ballet
I wish I had more time to hear what he would say.
Several people garnered around the table together
They talked about rain and forecasted cold weather
They told each other where they could get a free meal.
And offered suggestions on getting through their ordeal.
God, may this not be their destiny
May each reclaim their identity
May they have enough food and water
For they are your children and they do matter
Farther keep them safe and warm.
May they find shelter from cold and harm.
In conclusion
Lord I pray, let us find a workable solution.
And so it is. Aman

Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally, it seems as though you relied on the video to make your point. You obviously know what youre talking about, why waste your intelligence on just posting videos to your weblog when you could be giving us something enlightening to read?| Rosette Issiah Nassi
There is certainly a lot to know about this issue. I like all the points you have made. Flossi Baird Getraer
